JULY 2022 UPDATE: This year I accepted a new role as the lead pastor of Des Moines Vineyard Church. As part of my transition, I will no longer be hosting the Light A Candle Scholarship Award. While a difficult decision for me, sometimes we need to let go of one thing to grasp the next. Having the opportunity to meet so many remarkable young people and to share their stories with generous friends who supported this dream has been very fulfilling these last seven years. Thank you to every school counselor and community leader who nominated students and for the tireless work you do day in and out in helping students succeed. Keep lighting candles... it makes our world a brighter place for all. - Becky

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:5

Light a Candle Award is a $500 academic scholarship given in recognition of someone who has overcome adversity and exemplifies a giving spirit towards others. Rather than being shut down in the challenges of life, this person embraces hope and a determination to make the world a better place.

They embody the words of Eleanor Roosevelt, "It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness."

Light a Candle Award funded through the generous gifts of people who know the power of lighting a candle together and the difference it makes in people's lives. See below how you can donate. Any gifts that come in over the scholarship award amount will go to next  year's  recipient(s).

Here's to lighting candles and making the world a better place.

Mail checks payable to Living In Sync with "Light A Candle Award" in the memo.                         Becky Waugaman 4553 50th St. Des Moines, IA 50310
